MTN Foundation builds E-library for Takoradi Technical University

The MTN Ghana Foundation has investment GH? 372, 196.00 in the setting up of an electronic library project for the Takoradi Technical University to assist in research and learning.

Electronic-Library system fits into MTN’s agenda of digitization and expanding the digital space for learning, information sharing, leisure and general life improvement.

Mr Robert Kuzoe, the Executive Secretary for the MTN Foundation, during the Commissioning of the electronic library at the University’s main campus at Effia in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, said the Foundation in the last decade had dedicated itself to supporting and championing national development efforts.

The Foundation over the period invested over 13 million dollars in more than 142 projects across the country, affecting more than four million lives in the right direction.

The Executive Secretary said education continued to be one of the critical pillars in the Foundation’s activity since it had a direct bearing on development and socio-economic empowerment of the citizenry.

The Foundation had in fulfillment of its vision renovated, constructed and furnished school blocks, built e-libraries and provided valuable connections through ICT to ensure that more and more people were in tune with the digital age.

The Takoradi Technical University’s MTN funded Electronic Library had 100 desktop computers, 35 UPS, two laptops and 100 chairs.

Professor John Frank Eshun, the Vice Chancellor of the University, expressed gratitude to the Foundation for the exemplary commitment shown in reviving the electronic library system in the School.

He said an effective academic work required a functional well-equipped library to enhance teaching, learning and research with academic libraries gradually shifting from traditional print resources into electronic resources as it maintained institutional memory.

Professor Eshun said, “I am happy to say that MTN Foundation’s timely intervention has helped us to successfully digitize some of our academic textbooks as well as ensure that both faculty and students benefited from the diverse dividends of electronic resources available in open access”.

He said the completion of the fibre optic network project for the school has also yielded high-speed internet connectivity thereby ensuring a stable internet service to make the electronic library more functional.

“We at TTU consider this as one of the institution’s great assets and I want to assure you that management will do all in its power to ensure that the facility is well maintained and protected,” he added.
