Taxi Drivers to wear uniforms - AMA
Accra, Jan. 19, GNA - Taxi drivers in the Accra Metropolis are to dress in uniforms with effect from February 1 2007 and they are also to pay 250,000 cedis for identification numbers to be embossed on their vehicles.
The identification numbers would make for easy identification of taxis and help to protect drivers from mugging and the frequent stealing of their vehicles.
The decisions were arrived at following consultation the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) had with road transport organisations including Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU); Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA) and Cooperative Transport Union. The agreement was that all taxi drivers would dress in sea blue shirt and dark blue trouser uniform.
A statement issued by AMA said taxi drivers would pay a subsidized amount of 250,000 cedis for identification numbers to be embossed on the front doors of their vehicles. 19 Jan. 07
