Maame Dokono defects to NPP

ACE ACTRESS Grace Omaboe, aka Maame Dokonu, a former staunch member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has fallen in love with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mounting the stage at the Takoradi Poly Park yesterday at a mammoth rally held to round off the NPP’s delegates’ conference, Dokonu, together with several popular musicians in the country, publicly declared support for the ruling party and pledged to support Nana Akufo-Addo to win the December elections.

She was later joined by artistes like K.K. Fosu, Castro, Wutah, Praye, A Plus, C.K. Mann and Nana Ampadu.

So charged was she that she removed her white bandana hat and spoke fervently.

To a wildly cheering crowd, Grace Omaboe, who stood in 2004 as the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Birim North Constituency in the Eastern Region, remarked that the country’s musicians have seen the light.

According to her, their lives had become better under the NPP government, and this has been strengthened in the campaign slogan ‘we are moving forward’.

The artistes indicated that they had therefore resolved to use their lyrics to call on the electorate to vote for Nana to become the next president of Ghana.

Madam Omaboe likened President Kufuor to the Biblical Moses who was sent to rescue the suffering Israelites and take them to the Promised Land.

She was of the view that President Kufuor was God-sent, that was why oil was discovered under his presidency.

Sounding political, the actress mentioned the School Feeding Programme, Health Insurance, National Youth Employment Programme and freedom of speech as some of the major achievements of the NPP.

On his part, the vintage highlife king, Nana Ampadu told the charged crowd that he saw a vision that Nana Addo would be the next president, and appealed to the electorate not to waste their votes on other political parties.

The Member of Parliament for Assin Fosu, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, who had earlier spoken vehemently against the selection of Dr. Bawumia as running mate to Nana Addo, also publicily declared his full support for the Nana-Bawumia ticket.

Hon. Agyapong who is very influential in the party, later gyrated to the ‘Go Go High’ song by Phillipa Baafi with President Kufuor, Nana Addo and Bawumia, while doing the ‘kangaroo dance’; this sent the entire crowd into frenzy.

The Assin Fosu MP stated that a house that is divided against itself cannot stand, and called for full steam ahead for the freshly outdoored ticket.
