The Enquirer has been hinted of the moves within the top hierarchy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to relegate Mrs. Grace Omaboe popularly known as ‘Maame Dokono’ from the forefront of the party’s campaign.

According to the party insiders, the defection of Maame Dokono from the National democratic Congress (NDC) to the NPP is welcome news, but her utterances during campaign were not in consonance with the strategies of the party.

The Enquirer gathered that Mrs. Omaboe’s constant attack on the former president JJ Rawlings and the former first Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, has been a source of worry to the NPP. The Enquirer was told that Nana Akufo Addo’s campaign plan is to put his programmes and policies across and not to attack anybody with foul language.

It was gathered that the role of Maame Dokono in the NPP Campaign has come up on a number of meetings of the campaign team of the NPP Flag bearer.

According to the insiders, the move to get her to the background is mainly due to the fact that having spent a number of years with NDC; the party might have something against her.

The Enquirer was told that the NPP is being cautious of all those who will defect to join its fold because of history. The insiders recall the incident of the former Vice-President, the late Ekow Nkesen Arkaah, who mounted political platform in 1992 and said a lot of tings about the NPP.

However, when in 1996, when the then candidate Kufuor entered the presidential race with the late Arkaah, the NDC used what he said in 1992 against him. The Enquirer gathered that the NPP is guarding against such occurrences and will go all out to ensure that those who defect from other parties to join the NPP will not veer off what the party is pursing.

The Enquirer was told that in 2000, when the late Alhaji Inusah defected from the NPP to the NDC, the NPP used what he said about the NDC and it helped the NPP at that time.

“Utterances of a person who defect from one party to another is very crucial and that is why we are worried about the role of Maame Dokono in the campaign,” they said.

The Enquirer was told the NPP will not hesitate to admit people who have realized the good work of the party but will be on the look out for infiltrators.

Mrs. Omaboe, together with Nana Kwame Ampadu, a well known NDC functionary announced their defection from that party to the NPP during an annual delegate congress of the NPP held at Takoradi recently.

Mrs. Omaboe after that began taking active role in Nana Akufo-Addo’s campaign with most of her message being attacks on the former first family and the NDC.

Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has however had to respond to the attacks of Maame Dokono. Nana Konadu has so far said that the NDC helped Mrs. Omaboe in diverse ways including bringing her into the political limelight.
