Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Kweku Baako Jnr. has described as "problematic" recent remarks by Peter Mac Manu that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will declare the November 7 election results.
Peter Mac Manu, the Campaign Manager of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was captured in an audio recording energizing some NPP faithful towards the 2016 general elections and stating emphatically that the party will go ahead to "declare the results" no matter what the Electoral Commission or any other institution does to probably restrict them.
Commenting on Peter Mac Manu's remarks on Peace FM’s 'Kokrokoo', Kweku Baako held strongly that Mr. Mac Manu's "communication was problematic...” and wished he had not used a different diction to address his concerns.
Touting Mr. Mac Manu as a "very gentle, very decent fellow", Mr. Baako, however, believed he (Mac Manu) "is not a rabble-rouser. Clearly, maybe that was not his intention.”
He sought to educate Ghanaians and the NPP faithful about the sacred role of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the general elections.
Mr. Baako stated that though any entity can announce the results, "the declaration of winners is the preserve of the EC. No matter what any politician or party does, you’ll never be deemed as a winner if Electoral Commissioner has not declared you as such. And even then, in Article 63 (9) A and B; it has issued the declaration of President-elect when we are talking Presidential elections, declaration of President-elect instrument, signed by the EC Boss – that is he is the Returning Officer for Presidential elections and then subsequently gazetted.”
