Boniface Abubakar Saddique, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina in the Greater Accra Region, has donated bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, tin tomatoes and sardines to some elderly Moslems of the constituency.
The items were provided by a Qatar Charity upon the request by the MP to support the vulnerable and the needy during the ongoing Moslem fasting and prayers (Ramadan).
Mr Saddique, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said on the Moslem calendar, the month of Ramadan is to show love, hence the donation to support the needy and the vulnerable in society.
“It is unfortunate that this year’s Ramadan has coincided with the outbreak of the COVID-19, which has made it tough for some Moslems to find the means to buy food to break their fast and to take their dawn meals,” he said.
Mr Mohammed Salifu, a member of the group who received the items on behalf of the people, expressed gratitude to the MP for the gesture and wished him God blessings saying the items would be of great benefit to them as they perform their religious expectations.
