Mafi and Adaklu celebrates commencement of road project

Asiekpe (V/R), March 4, GNA - The chiefs and people of Mafi and Adak= lu traditional areas on Thursday celebrated the commencement of works to upgrade the Sogakope-Adidome-Adaklu-Ho Road. The people drummed and danced in appreciation when President John Ev= ans Atta Mills cut the sod for the commencement of the 60-kilometre road project. Mr Joe Gidisu, Minister of Roads and Highways said the GHc 54,188,153.71 million- project would transform the road into two-lane sin= gle carriage way with double surface dressing. He said the project had been awarded to four contractors so that the= y could meet the 10 months contract period. Mr Gidisu expressed optimism that the project would strengthen econo= mic activities between the Volta and Greater Accra regions.

He said it would also cut the travel time between Ho- and Accra. "It will also temporarily relieve the Adomi Bridge of trucks carryin= g heavy loads, as well as serve as an alternative route when the Adomi Brid= ge is closed to traffic for rehabilitation," Mr Gidisu added. He advised communities along the project area to co-operate with contractors on the road and protect materials from being stolen. Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister said people in the regi= on were overjoyed by the President's "personal concern for the timely and speedy implementation of the various development projects in the region". "Our people appreciate the fact that in spite of the difficulties associated with the global economic down turn of the past year, you have not forgotten them."

He expressed optimism that the construction of the road would enhanc= e the economic fortunes of the region.

Togbe Brentua Asafo IV, Mankralo of Mafi Traditional Area commended=

the President for his personal interest in the project. Togbe Dzegblade IV, Chief of Adaklu Kodzobi expressed the hope that a stone quarry at Adaklu Ahunda would be reactivated as part of the project= .. 4 March 10
