Taking social intervention programs under late President Mills and President Mahama into consideration, the former NPP Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency chairman, Michael Omari Wadie, believes the two leaders have succeeded in disgracing themselves with their governance, coming from the background as social democrats.
He stated that ex-President Kufuor, known for his capitalism, introduced quite a number of social intervention programs in the midst of the economic meltdown to cushion the living conditions of Ghanaians.
According to him, the introduction of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) now branded Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Development Agency (GYEEDA), School Feeding and Capitation Grant Programs, Mass Transport System and National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), by Mr Kufuor, helped in alleviating the hardship of Ghanaians after the NPP inherited a rather badly-managed economy.
“…if you are a social democrat and want to embark on social intervention programs, but you don’t have the know-how to attempt it, you end up disgracing yourself and embarrassing everybody…..that is how President Mahama and late President Mills’ governance has succeeded in doing,” Omari Wadie said.
Addressing the current state of the social intervention programs under President John Dramani Mahama, Omari Wadie, who is aspiring for the position of National Chairman of the NPP, claimed that corruption has become the corner-stone in all the existing programs under President Mahama.
“There is no money to run the state transport system in the country….no money to effectively manage the School Feeding programs in the various basic schools; we are lucky to even have NHIS which is on its knees still working….NDC government has virtually collapsed all the social intervention programs introduced by Ex-President Kuffour”, he opined.
