Former Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, says the president has no moral right to tell Ghanaians to stop complaining when he [Mahama] did worse in opposition.
President John Mahama whilst addressing a congregation at a Thanksgiving Service in his honor at the Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Accra last Sunday, urged Ghanaians to stop complaining.
He said developed nations like United States of America and England went through turbulent times like what Ghana is experiencing, but is confident we will get over it.
President Mahama added that Ghanaians must recognize the many blessings God has bestowed on the country and work hard to achieve a Better Ghana.
But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Monday, Nana Akomea said President Mahama is being “intolerant”.
According to him, the president himself says the economy is down to the bone hence Ghanaians only find solace in complaining to get things off their chest.
The former Okaikoi South Member of Parliament said President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when in opposition did not give the erstwhile Kufuor administration any breathing space.
Nana Akomea recalled how on 22 March 2001, three months in office, the NDC organized a press conference condemning the Kufuor administration.
“Eight months later, NDC MPs including John Mahama called for fresh elections because they said the government was bogus”.
He intimated that President Mahama then Director of Communications of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) complained bitterly about the state of the economy.
“John Mahama then in opposition hopped from one radio station to the other, every morning, making noise about the state of the economy and now he doesn’t want people to complain about the economy? He questioned.
Nana Akomea urged President Mahama to stop the rhetorics and focus on restoring the ailing economy.
