Mahama can't fight corruption alone - Pelpuo

The former Minister of Youth and Sports, Rasheed Pelpuo, has called on Ghanaians to help President Mahama's government fight corruption in the country.

The Minister of State in charge of Private-Public Partnerships at the Presidency said the only way for the President to triumph over corruption is for Ghanaian citizens to get involved in the fight.

Hon. Rashid Pelpuo said: "I want to see every Ghanaian to be part of the government, every Ghanaian to see the government as their government and every Ghanaian to contribute to make sure that corruption does not take root in Ghana".

Mr Pelpuo’s comments come after several corruption scandals have rocked the nation recently. While Ghc45 million meant for afforestation and guinea fowl projects under the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) programme remain unaccounted for, over Ghc203 million is also alleged to have gone into private pockets under the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA).

"If we sit down and watch and just expect government to be in charge of the economy and the same government in charge of monitoring corruption and punishing people who are corrupt and then the rest of us just sit down and complain, I think that we are coming to a point in our political life when everyone has to get involved".

The Wa Central MP also stated that government is doing everything possible to ensure that those found culpable of engaging in corrupt practices are punished.

"The government has appointed the sole commissioner for judgment debt, set up the ministerial committee on GYEEDA…President setting up an anti-corruption mechanism at the presidency" Hon. Pelpuo told Citi FM in an interview.
