President Mahama has cautioned Journalists in the country to show a high sense of decency in communication in order not to instill hate in citizens.
‘As someone who understands communication, I stand in full appreciation for the freedom of speech, but also for the decency with which we choose to communicate so that we don’t instill hate in our fellow-citizens’ souls, but rather a passion towards the truth.’
In a statement to mark World Press Freedom Day on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, posted on his facebook page, President Mahama said Ghana pride’s itself with one of the freest press in the world which speaks volumes about our commitment to democracy and transparency in all our dealings in order to be accountable to our people.

In Ghana, we pride ourselves with one of the freest press in the world. This speaks volumes about our commitment to democracy and transparency. The plurality of voices, the strong and healthy debates and the thorough journalistic investigations, all provide a milieu where every voice is heard and where every branch of the government is held accountable to citizens.
As someone who understands communication, I stand in full appreciation for the freedom of speech, but also for the decency with which we choose to communicate so that we don’t instill hate in our fellow-citizens’ souls, but rather a passion towards the truth.
Our press has a fundamental mission: to seek the truth and to protect the dignity and decency of every Ghanaian. On this day, I say to all Ghanaian journalists: Ayeeko! I thank each and every one of you for your dedication! I will always be your partner on our common path towards a better Ghana!"
