President John Dramani Mahama has challenged the Ghana Armed Forces to be on the alert and respond to emerging global security crisis.

He said this is the only way government can justify investments being made in the security services.

Addressing a graduation ceremony at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, President Mahama said government will adequately resource the Armed Forces for improved defence.

“New troop carrying vehicles have been provided and efforts are being made to procure a lot to assist in troop movements in addition to infantry and armored personnel.

“In this way we can share our commitment with others and position Ghana and our Armed Forces at the forefront in the fight against poverty deprivation, underdevelopment and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

“We need peace to develop together as a country, as a sub-region and as a continent” President Mahama said.

The Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces, Major General Kwesi Yankson, advised the graduands to protect the credibility of their training institution.

61 security officers from Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Mali, Rwanda, Togo, Uganda and Sierra Leone were presented with post graduate diplomas and masters’ degrees.
