Akyem-Tafo, Sept 11, GNA - Rousing welcome continued to meet the campaign team of Mr John Dramani Mahama, Running mate of NDC in Election 2008. Mr Mahama who is on a 10-day tour of Eastern Region was received warmly on Wednesday at New and Old Tafo, Osiem, Begoro and Ahomahomasu where he addressed rallies.

During a courtesy call at Tafohene's Palace, Osabarima Adusei Peasah, Tafohene, asked supporters of political parties to refrain from dragging the name of chiefs into partisan politics because chiefs by their position received politicians from different political parties and were not happy that after any visit, supporters of opposition political parties misinterpret it to mean support for the Party. He said it was worrying because it would affect the reputation of chieftaincy institution.

Osabarima Peasah said what was necessary was for the electorate to review their present living conditions and vote according to their conscience, adding" God has given each and everyone the brain to think of what is good for his situation." He appealed to activists of political parties to allow peace to prevail in the run off to Election 2008 and after because Ghanaians had no other place than their God-given country. At Osiem, Opanyin Abraham Adusei, General Superintendent of Saviour Church, said God would choose a leader for Ghana and that it was a lesson to politicians that in 2000 God caused a change when Ghanaians called for it.

He said the change came and Ghanaians could now judge the alternative choice opened to them again on December 7. Opanyin Adusei noted that the promise and fail syndrome by politicians had led to cynicism in the political landscape. Addressing rallies in the towns, Mr Mahama said NDC was poised to win the elections and would therefore not countenance any action that would lead to breach of peace. He said leadership of the Party for Election 2008, had continued to impress upon their supporters to be disciplined and law abiding to ensure they did not spark any violence. Mr Mahama said NDC policies could only be implemented in a peaceful atmosphere for a better Ghana.
