Mahama demonstrated our ideals as social democrats – Omane Boamah

Government has said the evidence-based State of the Nation Address delivered in parliament on Thursday by President Mahama evokes the clear lines in politics between the largest opposition New Patriotic Party and the ruling NDC government.

“This has evinced the great difference that lies between us- Our ideals as Social-democrats. We’re committed to investing in people’s lives and creating the opportunity for the masses in society,” Minister of Communications, Edward Omane Boamah stated on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM.

President Mahama during his State of the Nation Address invited his own guests who he claimed have benefited from the government’s social intervention programmes and spent time accounting to lawmakers how he’s touched on the lives of such individuals with the myriads of social programmes undertaken by his government.

However, Minority Leader, Mr Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu reacting to Mahama’s State of the Nation Address has pooh-poohed the President’s act describing it as “absolutely unnecessary” for the President to have showcased such guests.

On the economy, he said while commending government for adding on to some extent infrastructure development in the country, especially in the educational sector, it should rather tread cautiously not to make it glorified projects in future which will have nothing to show for in terms of standards.

He warned that industries are collapsing, hence the efforts in solving the energy problems of the country should be taken seriously, insisting that government must also find the need to open up more on hydro-generation in the energy mix.
