Mahama gives account of performance in Volta Region

President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday gave a litany of completed and on-going projects in the Volta Region, dismissing as “deliberate misinformation,” suggestions to the contrary.

“I want to assure you that we will not turn our backs on you as long as the NDC remains in office,” because the region has been the winning factor for the National Democratic Congress, President Mahama told the Volta Regional House of Chiefs on Thursday.

The meeting with the Chiefs formed part of his “Changing lives” tour of the Region which began on Wednesday.

He inaugurated a Community Day Senior High School in the northern part of the Region and inspected work on the Eastern Corridor road.

President Mahama would also inaugurate the permanent campus of the University of Health and Allied Sciences at Sokode near Ho, and address a rally at the Jubilee Park near the House of Chiefs in Ho.

He said on his next visit to the region in 2016 “significant” progress would have been made on the road, which straddles 26 districts in both the Volta and Northern regions with great economic potentials.

President Mahama said portions of that road have been designated as cocoa roads and others profiled under the European Union funding to ensure that they did not suffer from funding bottlenecks.

He said 12 community day senior high schools are being built in the region, which has more than an “average” allocation in the country.

President Mahama said the construction of an airport in the region was justified because of the importance of aviation to economic development.

He said the airport would enable people to fly from Ho to Tamale and back the same day for business and other purposes.

Nana Soglo Alloh IV, Vice-President of the Regional House of Chiefs, urged the government to complete the regional theatre project, the regional library and the Eastern Corridor road and a metering station at Aflao for the West Africa Gas Pipeline.

He said the region has never wavered in its support and loyalty to the ruling party and is looking forward for commensurate returns.

Nana Alloh urged government to pay attention to roads along the country’s frontier with Togo.

He acknowledged the enormity of the infrastructure deficit, needing the attention of government and called for an enabling environment for the private sector to lend support towards tackling the problem.
