Mahama implemented vital social intervention programmes – Oye lithur responds to Bawumia

Former Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Nana Oye Lithur has waded into the debate as to which political party has implemented more social intervention programmes in Ghana.

Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has challenged the NDC to name any social intervention programmes it introduced to mitigate the effects of any difficulties that affected Ghanaians when they were in power.

“We have done tangible things to reduce the hardships on Ghanaians. We can point to them.

“Today, the NDC is going around saying that there are hardships. So what we want to ask them, and I want to challenge them, a simple challenge: tell us what you have done in your last eight years of government. Tell us the social interventions you brought in to reduce the hardships of Ghanaians,” he said.

Various NDC communicators including former Communications Minister, Dr Omane Boamah have attempted responding to the challenge but have failed to provide adequate response.

The latest person to provide a response is former Gender Minister, Nana Oye Lithur.

Speaking on Homebase TV, Oye Lithur said the former President implemented paramount social intervention policies during the Mahama administration.

During the term of office of John Mahama, social interventions were paramount and were well thought through well before implementations were done.

”So programmes like School Feeding Programme, Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), and the rest are policies which were implemented with strategic planning,” she said.



She thus bastardised the free SHS Programme as according to her, it poorly implemented.

”Unlike the Free SHS by the New Patriotic Party which has no calculated plan, thereby making parents and students stranded in the various SHS’s in Ghana,” she stated.

She further claimed that the NDC is more committed to the development of Ghana than the ruling NPP.

According to her, the party has demonstrably exhibited its strong commitment to strengthening the country’s democratic credentials and building a peaceful and stable economy since country started practising multi-party democracy.

”I am convinced beyond any doubt, that our party, the NDC, remains the most citizen-friendly and development-oriented political party in Ghana and must continue to work in the interest of the Ghanaian People,” she said.
