President John Mahama Wednesday July 13 inaugurated the first phase of the Aboabo market in Tamale as part of his Accounting to the People tour of the Northern Region.

While inaugurating the Aboabo market in Tamale, President Mahama assured of more projects to be carried out to develop the region.

“There have been plans to develop the Aboabo market over the years and this is one of the oldest markets in Tamale and I am happy that today under the Ghana Urban Management Programme financed by the French government [through] Agence Francaise de Developement, we are here to inaugurate this phase of the Aboabo market complex and I am very happy to be here to have the opportunity to do so.

We are also working on the Acheampong market, which is the shea nut market area. It was started in General Acheampong’s time in 1973-74; since then it was abandoned. Today you go and see the work going on there and you feel proud to be a resident of Tamale,” Mr Mahama stated.

The president, who commenced the final leg of his Accounting to the People tour in the Northern Region, also paid a courtesy call on the chief of Nalerigu, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, and inaugurated a water system for Kparigu and surrounding towns.

The Chief was grateful for the water project but called for the construction of more roads in the Kparigu township.
