Mahama issued 24 dud cheques, not 44 – GRA

Businessman Ibrahim Mahama issued 24 dud cheques, contrary to claims by Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Agyapong that he signed 44, Assistant Commissioner of Communications at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Robert Mensah, has revealed.

“The cheques were 12 in all for the companies, with the first being in January 2016,” he told Emefa Apawu on Class FM’s 505 news programme.

GRA is in the process of retrieving GHS10million that two companies – MBG Limited and Holman Brothers – belonging to Ibrahim Mahama, owed the state as duties in connection with some heavy duty equipment he cleared at the Tema port in 2015.

Mr Agyapong, who first blew the lid on Mr Mahama, claimed the businessman issued 44 dud cheques to the GRA in connection with the payment of the duties but the GRA has explained that the number of dishonoured cheques were not up to 44.

The two companies belonging to the brother of former President John Mahama have been asked by the GRA to pay the debt owed the state within two weeks.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama, was on Tuesday April 18 invited by EOCO and interrogated for hours over accusations of financial malfeasance.
