Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, Chairman of the United Kingdom branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), also known as Wofa K, has served notice that they will hold President-elect John Dramani Mahama to the fire in ensuring that he delivers on his campaign promises.

He stated that it will no longer be business as usual, and the incoming president must be held to account.

He posited that the NDC's candidate and his party went on a lying spree against the outgoing NPP government just so they could win power. He made the remarks in an interview with Sir Richie on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Ghana, and Rainbow Radio 92.4FM, UK.

He said if the campaign was something that Ghanaians used in winning, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, did so well.

He stated that they led a solid campaign but unfortunately, the voters did not vote for them, adding that despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine war, the Akufo-Addo government did so well. He said nobody can rule out the negative impact of COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukraine war.

The NPP winning, he said, would have ensured the continuation of their achievements. He said the NPP is leaving behind a solid economy with a growth rate of 7%, and the incoming Mahama-led administration would have no excuse to fail.

"If Mahama fails to build on the growth we have achieved, the growth rate will drop, and the country will head back to the challenges and difficulties we complained about," he said. "Mahama should make sure that he will stabilize the cedi. He also promised to help reduce the price of kenkey. They promised not to scrap the free SHS. They promised to scrap E-Levy.

"They gave specific timelines, and Ghanaians are waiting patiently for these promises to be fulfilled. They should deliver on their promises so Ghanaians will experience better living conditions.

"They realized that a lot of Ghanaians were in the rural communities and lacked an understanding of these issues, and so when they went there to campaign, they peddled falsehoods so they could win their votes. They left the country in a terrible state with dumsor for almost five years in 2016," he added.

He added, "They took us to the IMF. Atta Mills increased our GDP to 14% from 8% under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and Mahama dropped it to 3.5% and destroyed all the gains made and plunged us into five years of dumsor with the collapse of industries, which cost the country an annual figure of GHC 10.88 billion. That was the state of the country.

"Then we (NPP) came in with every fibre in us and worked hard; in 2017, 2018, and 2019, Ghana was the fastest-growing economy in the whole world.

"If not for the outbreak of COVID-19, we would have experienced something different. But they have lied to Ghanaians and made them lose hope in this government and have won the elections. We want to see where they would position this country. Even in the face of the difficulties we complain of, half of our GDP record is better than Mahama's best in 2016."
