General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, has slammed President John Dramani Mahama for blasphemy, claiming that his presidency was ordained by God.

According to him, though God does choose leaders, it will be an act of complete disservice for God to decree a criminal as a leader for Ghanaians.

“It is very true that God does ordain leaders…, God will not use criminals to work in any way. God doesn’t deal with corrupt minded people…. If you look at the case in court (Election Petition) and how results were rigged for President John Mahama and allowing people without verification to vote, all these and other criminal matters show clearly that God did not ordain President Mahama…he (Mahama) used corrupt and criminal ways to ordain himself. He has been exposed...God never ordained him,” he strongly asserted.

President Mahama, at a ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the Mount Horeb Victorious Church International at Mamfe in the Eastern Region, over the weekend, stressed that attempts by his political opponents to derail his presidency would fail because God had ordained him as the leader of Ghana.

“…what they (opponents) didn’t understand is that it is God who bestows leadership. During the campaign, I declared that it was not by my might that I was going to be president of Ghana but that He who is above…that is why they [opposition parties] still cannot understand why a person will use 40 days to win an election in a country…But He who is above does wonderful things and He does what pleases Him,” the president said.

But in a sharp riposte on Okay FM, the NPP chief scribe warned the president to desist from using the name of the Lord in vain.

“He (Prez Mahama) should stop using God’s name to deceive people because even the devil also believes in God. He should stop mentioning God’s name in vain whiles he knows personally that rigging helped him to be at the helm of affairs……the time will come when we (NPP) will sack him from office (when the Supreme Court) decides. The right time will come; he knows it that is why he (Prez Mahama) is having sleepless nights. God never ordained him,” he stated.
