Mahama must defend judges just like he does for EC – Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako has challenged President John Dramani Mahama to publicly condemn the radio panelists who issued death threats against judges in the country.

According to Chairman Wontumi, as he is popularly known, he is very much surprised that the President and the NDC as a party have not attached much seriousness to the attack on the judges, the same way they do when the Electoral Commission comes under attack.

Wontumi is contending that the President’s refusal to make any public pronouncement on the threat and condemn it, gives wrong impressions that he does not really care about the seriousness of the threats against the judges.

In a statement issued over the weekend, Chairman Wontumi pointed out that such selective attitude only goes to confirm the hypocritical attitude of the President and the NDC party.

“I have been wondering under which motivation these NDC communicators could make such outbursts or threats.

“Who is encouraging them or who asked them to make those threats? But the President and the NDC’s reaction to the issue clearly tell us from which authority they made those outburst,” Chairman Wontumi observed in a statement issued by his office.

According to him, such forms of radio communication would only put fear in the neutral judicial service, stressing that it is dangerous and should not be encouraged by any political party.

He noted that the least he expected was the indifferent attitude of the President and the leadership of the NDC as a whole, adding “they should admit that these threats would further make our country insecure rather than giving it different twists”.

The Ashanti Regional NPP Boss, however, pleaded with the Supreme Court Judges to tamper justice with mercy when the suspects appear before them.

Meanwhile, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako has ruled himself out of any possible appointment in an event that the party secures victory in the upcoming elections, stating emphatically his vision is to ensure that the socio-economic livelihood of each and every Ghanaian is improved.

Mr Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, says he is not eyeing any favour from Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo’s presidency, except that he pursues laudable policies and programmes that will generate employment for the teeming youths in this country to enjoy.

“When it comes to academic credentials, I know I don’t come near, but all these struggles that we are going through, my hope is that after November 7 Ghanaians will see change, a change that inspires hope and restores confidence in the Ghanaian economy,” Chairman Wontumi pointed out.

According to him, President Mahama and the NDC have failed to live up to expectation and instead of making the lives of Ghanaians better; they have rather worsened their plights. He said Ghana was currently in a hopeless situation, but stressed that with the elections around corner, Ghanaians have the opportunity to change the destiny of this country.

The NPP regional chairman, who was addressing party supporters over the weekend at Oforikrom, urged voters to assess their living conditions and make their decision.

He compared the upcoming elections to that of the British ‘Remain’ or ‘Exit’ referendum, emphasizing that Ghanaians should check their current conditions and make the right decision.

“If you know that you can afford to pay your electricity bills, then vote remain; if you know you can pay your water bills, hospital bills, school fees and the rest, then vote remain, but if you know you can’t afford these things, then you have the chance to vote exit and remove the NDC and President Mahama from power,” he observed.
