Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, aka ‘Sir John’ has warned that his party will be forced to start exposing the true personality of President Mahama if the latter does not advise his people and rented-press to desist from attacking Nana Akufo-Addo .
Speaking in Accra, Sir John said, the unguarded statements and abuses heaped on Nana Akufo-Addo are orchestrated from the seat of government and it is, therefore, Mahama's personal responsibility to stop them.
“A rabbit station like Montie FM has been set up by President Mahama and his government to pour daily insult and malign the character of Nana AKufo-Addo…We are aware Agyenim Boateng and Baffoe Bonnie manage the station from the seat of government,” he said.
He added that “They spend millions of tax payers’ monies to expand the infrastructure of their radio stations to give them wider coverage all in an effort to insult, castigate and incite people against NPP and Nana AKufo-Addo.”
Sir John noted that President Mahama is using the taxpayers’ monies setting up radio stations to attack Nana Akufo-Addo when he should be using the monies to solve the energy crisis, which has caused major economic mess.
“Ordinary Ghanaians are paying more for their electricity than their rent…They don’t have a record to defend, theirs is to setup radio stations to indulge in character assignation,” he said.
The NPP, Sir John said, believes in the campaign of issues and ideas, but will not tolerate situations where President Mahama and his surrogates make the maligning of Nana Akufo-Addo their only agenda.
“Respect is earned, respect is reciprocal. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. We will come heavily on the personality of President Mahama if he does not call his people to order…It’s a warning, let them continue and they will have more than what they asked for,” he said.
Being in government, Sir John said, is no licence to issue abusive, intemperate and slanderous statements on any person.
“If President Mahama cannot call his people to order, it just more evidence of what millions of Ghanaians have come to know about him- that he is too weak to lead,” Sir John said.
According to Sir John, the NPP will continue to focus its campaign on how President Mahama and his government have created millions more unemployed youth, formed a stealing brigade, and introduced the highest electricity crisis in history.
“In this campaign, we will talk about our plans to solve President Mahama’s broken promises. But if necessary, we will defend ourselves against President Mahama’s taxpayers’ funded personal attacks,” Sir John stated.
