Mahama promises shredder per district

In order to save the environment from plastic pollution, President John Dramani Mahama has indicated that the country will adopt a plastic recycling policy, with every district receiving an equipment for shredding plastics.

This, he said, would be done if voted into office for a second term in the December 7 polls. According to him, the shredded plastics will then be converted into other useful products, thereby saving the environment from pollution.

“We are going to recycle waste and every district is going to get a machine for shredding plastic and compacting it. It will then be transported to a recycling factory and then the shredded plastic will be used to produce plastic chairs, buckets, dustbins, and other products,” the flag bearer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) promised.

With this initiative, several jobs are also expected to be created to absorb professionals and other workers in the sanitation sector.

This was contained in the 2016 manifesto highlights of the party presented by the president in Accra on Tuesday September 13.

President Mahama also revealed that efficient modern technologies were on the horizon for public boarding schools. The various public schools will have biogas systems to be used for cooking for pupils.

“A liquid waste system will be fitted with bio-digesters which produce methane gas which will be piped to kitchens to be used to cook,” he added.
