The Education minister-designate Mathew Opoku Prempeh has given the assurance that the school blocks that were constructed by the Mahama administration will be put to good use under President Akufo-Addo.
According to him, although the NPP had concerns with the policy behind the construction of the blocks, they will be utilised because they are national assets.
Responding to questions at the appointments committee of parliament when he took his turn Tuesday, the medical doctor said a lot of the buildings, which are yet to be occupied, will be converted into technical and vocational facilities.
“The E-blocks are national assets and must be put to good use. Regardless of the challenges we had with them during the campaign, they will be put to good use.
“A lot of the vocational and technical education which is much needed in this country could make good use of that national asset and so we shall utilise them for the benefit of the country,” he said.
Napo, as he is affectionately called, said teachers will be central in the NPP government’s education policy.
“But we have stated that without the teacher our educational reforms will come to zero, so the teacher at the centre of quality educational outcome is imperative. His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assures me that I could read because I was taught by a teacher, so the teacher first is the NPP manifesto.”
