The remains of Hajia Abiba Nnaba, mother of President Mahama, have been airlifted to the Northern Region for burial. The Airforce MI17 Helicopter left the Airforce Base in Accra Friday morning.
Hajia Abiba would be buried in her hometown, Busunu in the West Gonja District. A short Islamic service was held for her before the body was airlifted. The Janaza prayers led by Alhaji Nuhu Kamagtey, Gonja Community Imam of Accra were said at the tarmac of the Airforce.
The father side of President Mahama had wanted her buried in Bole where her divorced husband came from. However after consultations the two families agreed for the burial to be held today at Busunu.
The body arrived at Busunu some minutes to midday and was briefly sent to her house before being moved to the palace of Busunu-Wura. Hajia Nnaba body would be there until after 2pm when Friday prayers (Jumah) have been observed.
She is expected to be buried near her residence which is close to the Busunu market, TV3’s Northern Regional correspondent Zubaida Ismail has gathered. Meanwhile, some statesmen and political actors mainly from the governing National Democratic Congress are in Busunu to pay their last respect to her. Zubaida spotted Gender Minister Nana Oye Lithur, Transport Minister Alhaji Inusah Fuseini and NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.
