The Member of Parliament (MP) for New Edubiase, Adams Abdul-Salam, has stated that the incoming John Dramani Mahama-led government will implement measures to ensure the Black Stars qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

He mentioned that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will collaborate with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to make the right decisions for the team's success.

The New Edubiase MP acknowledged the disappointment Ghanaians felt due to the team's failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

"President-elect John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government are committed to ensuring the Black Stars qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

"We missed out on the 2025 AFCON tournament, but we will support the Ghana Football Association (GFA) by providing necessary resources to help the team qualify. Our main goal is to secure qualification for the Black Stars," he told Asempa FM.

Abdul-Salam reassured his constituents that the New Edubiase Sports Stadium would be built under the Mahama administration.

"During the campaign, John Mahama visited my constituency, and I presented four demands, with the New Edubiase Sports Stadium being a key priority.

"The previous NDC government began the project, but the NPP intentionally left it incomplete. However, I, along with John Mahama, will ensure the stadium's completion," he added.

John Mahama has been declared by the Electoral Commission as the President-Elect of Ghana after the 2024 elections.

The Black Stars, under head coach Otto Addo, lost three games, drew three, and won none of their six matches in the tournament.

The team finished at the bottom of Group F with only three points, while Sudan and Angola qualified from the group.

This marks the first time in 20 years that the Black Stars have failed to qualify for the AFCON.
