Governance expert Dr. Eric Oduro Osae has lauded President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to create five more administrative regions out of the current 10.
He argued such a move would bring adequate development to other regions that are disadvantaged, and also underscored the need for Ghana to create more than 20 regions.
President Mahama in giving highlights of the 2016 manifesto of the National Democratic Congress, said he would pursue the creation of five regions to bring to 15, the total administrative regions in Ghana.
“We need it because we have a number of bigger regions in this country that have not seen the needed development,” he told 3FM Thursday.
He cited the Northern Region as one of the big regions that have not seen much development hence the need to split it into two “for the purpose of effective administration.
Other regions that he cited as those needing division were the Brong Ahafo, Eastern, Ashanti, Volta and the Western regions as some.
“Without mincing words let us as a country, find a way of putting a cap on the number of regions and the districts that we can create,” he advised.
