Captain (Rtd) Dennis Mahama – father of the late Major Maxwell Mahama – has said he was really pleased with his son’s posthumous promotion by President Akufo-Addo.

Retired Captain Dennis Mahama told Francis Abban on Morning Starr that he was very hurt his son died without going beyond a Captain.

“I personally thought that my son having taken the same profession like me will go far higher than where I reached as a captain so one of the things that hurt me was that he couldn’t go beyond where I reached before ending that way as a Captain, so with his promotion to a Major that makes him having gone beyond where I reached and it’s a great pleasure,” the retired army officer said.

The late Major Mahama was brutally lynched and charred to death a week ago after he was allegedly mistaken for an armed robber. He was with the 5 Infantry Battalion of the Ghana Armed Forces, Burma Camp Accra but on detachment duties at Denkyira Obuasi in the Central region where he was gruesomely murdered by residents there.

As at June 5, the Ghana Police Service announced the arrest of 42 persons in connection with the horrendous murder. They have been arraigned in court and currently on remand.

A vigil organized by the Ghana Armed Forces in partnership with the Excellence in Broadcasting (EIB) Network – operators of Starr 103.5 FM will be held on Thursday, June 8 at the Arakan Mess, Burma Camp.

Major Mahama will be buried on Friday, June 9, 2017.
