Mahama’s stay in the Flagstaff House would be short lived

A member of the New Patriotic Party’s communication team, Kwamena Duncan, has chastised President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for questioning the expediency of building a befitting place for future Presidents and described President Mahama’s stay in the Flagstaff House as “ephemeral”.

He said the President’s stay in the Flagstaff House would be a temporary one alluding to a win for the NPP in the Petition before the Supreme Court, which he foresee a potential change in government.

Speaking on Peace FM’s “kokrokoo” programme, Kwamena Duncan first questioned why the NDC reproved President John Agyekum Kufour for building such an edifice for the country, calling it a misplaced priority, though they knew the former President would be out of power before the completion of the then Golden Jubilee House.

During his submission on the programme, Kwamena Duncan believes the Castle was not the appropriate place to seat the Presidency due to its historical past of being a transit point for slavery.

According to him, the NDC government should come out to clarify or explain the security concerns they (the NDC) claim was the basis of excuse not to occupy the state edifice.

He added that the National Security Advisers did not see the place as conducive, security wise, for the President to stay and work from and would like to know what has changed now.
