Mahama sets conditions under which he will accept the 2024 election results

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that he will only accept the results of the upcoming December 7 general election if the process meets standards of transparency and credibility.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the BBC, Mahama expressed concerns about potential irregularities and violence during the electoral process.

He emphasised that the integrity of the election is crucial to safeguarding Ghana’s democracy and fostering public confidence in the outcome.

The former president made it clear that he would reject any results marred by misconduct, such as ballot theft, voter intimidation, or the involvement of armed forces in civilian voting areas.

“If, on election day, there is widespread ballot snatching, people being beaten, military intimidation, and thugs causing chaos, you expect me to accept that result? Acceptance will depend on the transparency and fairness of the process,” Mahama asserted.
