Member of Parliament (MP) for Asuogyaman, Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, wants Ghanaians to blame President John Dramani Mahama for entering into a dubious business deal with the Africa & Middle East Resources Investment Group (AMERI Group) in his hasty quest to solving the erratic power crisis that has engulfed the country.

According to him, when one does a thorough analysis of government’s response to the AMERI Energy deal, it was clear that it was the President himself who fronted for the transaction without considering the future of the Ghanaian youth.

He believes that the US$510million AMERI Energy could have been put together by a Ghanaian consortium at about US$300million where the remaining US$210million could have been used to build on the capacities of the youth to take up various positions in the industrial sector of the country.

“I am wondering why President Mahama assigned the Power Minister to enter into that stinky deal knowing very well that a Ghanaian consortium could have secured the derivative gas turbines at a far cheaper price than what the Dubai-based company has supplied. Look at the huge excess amount that is going into the pockets of certain individuals? That money could have been used to train our youth in the energy sector. It tells you where our priorities are.”

“So, if you ask me whether we got value for money, I will tell you that President Mahama has short changed the future of Ghanaian youth with this AMERI Energy transaction. That means, for years to come, our teeming youth will still be struggling with employment opportunities,” he noted.

To the Asuogyamang lawmaker, now is the time for Ghanaians to say no to President John Dramani Mahama and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) through the ballot to save the country from further collapsing.
