Member of Parliament for the Keta constituency and propaganda secretary for the ruling National Democratic Congress Richard Quarshiga has clarified that the travels of the president are yielding fruits urging the opposition to quieten their charges.
According to Mr. Quarshiga, the volatile situation in the sub-region and unease in neighbouring Burkina Faso is part of the reasons the president is seeking consultations from regional leaders to chart the way forward.
He said as ECOWAS chairman, aside pursuing peace in the sub-region, Mr. Mahama is also embarking on the foreign trips to help secure loans and other packages for the development of the state and citizens.
The Keta MP was reacting to allegations by Dominic B. A. Nitiwul, the deputy minority leader of parliament that some of the trips of the president were pleasure trips disguised as state visits pointing out a video coverage which captured the president at a football event in the company of president Goodluck Jonathan whom he had gone to confer with.
“I do not deem the allegation by Dominic as appropriate as they are unfounded” the Keta MP opined.
When Eye Witness News host Nana Boakye Yiadom asked why the NDC attacked president Kufuor for his foreign trips but condone Mr. Mahama’s trips, the propaganda secretary stated the difference between the two presidents is that while most of Kufuor’s trips were for vacations and often involved a large entourage, president Mahama’s trips yield more benefit to citizens as funds are secured for development devoid of the huge entourage that characterized Kufuor’s travels.
