Yendi(NR), June 4, GNA - Mr John Dramni Mahama, Running Mate to Professor John Evans Attah Mills, NDC Flagbearer on Tuesday urged Ghanaians not to differentiate from each other but see themselves as belonging to a common entity Ghana.

Speaking at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi as part of his Northern Region tour, Mr Mahama said, "As much as the NDC would not like to get entangled in chieftaincy dispute it would ensure that when voted into power, peace would prevail in Dagbon."

Mr Mahama who was enthusiastically welcomed, said there would be nothing unifying and heart warming than to see Abudus and Andanis uniting to fight hunger, poverty, disease and ignorance in the area. He said the North was the least developed area in the country, therefore people from that area should be the first to recognise that conflicts further retards progress in the area. Mr Mahama commended the people for the tolerance and maturity that had led to a relative peace in the area.

He said NDC had a package of revamping agriculture in the area and it recognised that provision of infrastructure was the basic requirement of development therefore started constructing bridges over rivers that linked the Northern Region with the Volta Region.

Mr Mahama said, "Coming from the Volta Region, through Nkwanta, Bimbilla and Yendi is the shortest route to Tamale therefore, NDC build a bridge over River Oti to link Volta Region with the North and had plans to reconstruct the road from Volta Region to link the North." He appealed to the people to support Mr Baba Iddrisu, NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Yendi to win the seat for the Party. Kapankuya Na, Na Yakubu Andani, Regent of Dagbon, was optimistic that with their compliance to the rule of law, all factions would ensure peace prevailed in Dagbon.
