Former President John Dramani Mahama welcomes a petition filed at the Office of the Special Prosecutor by some faceless persons to have him investigated over a claimed diversion of monies meant for the development of the Western Region, his office has said.

On Monday, there were reports that some indigenes of the Region have petitioned Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu to investigate the immediate past president for allegedly diverting $13 million from a private company, EO Group, meant for development.

But in a statement signed by Mr Mahama’s Special Aide Joyce Bawah Mogtari on Monday, “to suggest as the petition claims that a President can divert funds from a private company in the circumstances described is absurd”.

It claimed the petition is an “orchestrated but failed” attempt by the government to divert attention.

The statement said the government is being suffocated by numerous allegations of corruption and, so, trying to divert attention from that.

“Former President Mahama, unlike President Nana Akufo-Addo, is incorruptible,” the statement stressed.

“He, therefore, welcomes the said petition and expects the Special Prosecutor who the petitioners claim is the originator and source of the false and dubious claims, to expeditiously commence its work.”

The statement referred to admissions by Mr Amidu at his vetting that most of his allegations were out of perception.

“It actually makes mockery of the Special Prosecutor that the surrogates of the NPP will cite as their evidence an article they say was written by him.”
