The Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has assured Ghanaians of the newly-elected National Democratic Congress’ readiness and commitment to serving the people of Ghana.

Speaking to the media on Monday, December 16, 2024, Haruna Iddrisu expressed confidence in the leadership of President-Elect John Dramani Mahama, stating that he will not disappoint Ghanaians and will run a government with humble and dedicated appointees.

He explained that behaviors exhibited by the outgoing government, including arrogance and the abuse of power, will not be tolerated or replicated under the next NDC government.

“It is my trust and prayer that he will not disappoint the Ghanaian people. He will avoid the arrogance of the New Patriotic Party so be sure that President Mahama will run a government with ministers who will be humble, uphold humility as a hallmark and requirement of the president. President Mahama will also avoid abuse of the office with impunity, so, the emergence of John Dramani Mahama marks an end to impunity,” he said.

The lawmaker further reiterated Mahama’s promise of running a lean government to protect the public purse, highlighting how achievable it is for Mahama to implement such a government effectively.

“I’ve seen many of you question whether President Mahama can run a lean government or not. It is a pledge he made to the Ghanaian people that he will protect the public purse. A true meaning is to downsize the government.

“He intends to run a government with 60 ministers and that’s very doable. I foresee him run a government with 23 ministers, some 19 cabinet ministers, and their deputies and some 16 regional ministers sum up to give about 54 to 58 ministries,” he added.
