The former President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, Thursday, took his campaign to become the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to a new height by surprisingly dinning with the party’s Members of Parliament (MPs) in a bid to woo their votes.

As the party prepares to go to congress this year to elect a new flagbearer who will lead them in the 2020 general elections, Mr. Mahama is leaving no stone unturned to woo the support of delegates who are strategically positioned to outwit his contenders.

Even though the President has been meeting the Minority NDC Caucus at undisclosed locations in the country in a bid to seek their support for his third term bid to lead the party, Thursday’s encounter is very strategic.

Mr. Mahama, according to inside sources, planned to have lunch with the NDC MPs in their own ‘backyard’ to signify and portray to the world the support he has from the lawmakers despite one of their own, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, declaring his intention to contest the flagbearership race of the party.

Mr. Mahama, moments after the delivery of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s message on the State of the Nation headed for the MPs Coffee Shop (cafeteria) and just when journalists gathered approached to interview him on his observations about the State of the National Address, he surprisingly swerved all.

Instead, he dinned with the NDC lawmakers with the cameras zoomed on them.

Among the NDC MPs that enjoyed the lunch with the former President include; Hon. Inusah Fuseini, Hon. Dominic Ayini, Hon. Laadi Ayii Ayamba, Hon. Helen Adjoa Ntoso among others.

The President was accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.
