Maiden Ghana Writers Awards to be held in Accra

The maiden Ghana Writers Awards is scheduled to take place on the 29th of October 2016 at Marvels mini golf course at 5pm in the national capital Accra.

The awards scheme will honour writers in poetry, flash fiction, short story and the overall prize dubbed "the Ananse award".

Speaking in an interview, the president of the Ghana Writers Awards, Mr. Zadok kwame Gyasi said the evening will be characterised by live performances by way of poetry, music, drama, film documentaries and spoken word among others.

Mr. Gyasi said the Ghana Writers Awards recognises the importance of the African identity hence all patrons of the event must be in an African outfit. He said this will be a way to exhibit Africa to the rest of the world.

The Ghana Writers Awards is aimed at encouraging

more young people into the literary arts industry and to promote Ghanaian and African literature .

Entries for the maiden edition was opened on Friday, July 15 to Monday, August 1, 2016.

The organisers of the awards are urging individuals, group of persons and organizations who want to help this initiative to come on board to make it a dream come true.

The Ghana Writers Awards has a mandate to create a generation of Ghanaian writers who would promote the Ghanaian and African culture through literature by telling the Ghanaian and Africa stories they way they should be told.

The organization has its vision as to celebrate and recognise excellence in Ghanaian and African literature at large by awarding deserving unpublished writers who are making waves with the arts of writing.
