Mainoo retains NPP Western Region Chairmanship

THE Western Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Peter Mac Manu, has been re-elected unopposed at the party’s regional delegates’ congress at Asankragwa.

Mr Dickson Atta, 43, a Takoradi-based businessman polled 46 votes to beat his closest contestant, Mr Joe Ghartey, a legal practitioner, who has 34 votes, for the post of First Vice-Chairman.

Other executives elected were Messrs Philip Nyarko, Second Vice-Chairman; Francis Quansah, Secretary; John Swanzy Baffoe, Assistant Secretary and Mrs Betty Hughes, Treasurer.

The rest are Mr Kojo Acquah, Organiser; Miss Abena Kwallah, Women’s Organiser and Mr Animu Abubakari, Youth Organiser.

In all, a total of 35 candidates contested the elections , which were supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Mr Mac Manu, in an address, called on the delegates to redouble their efforts to enable the party to retain political power in the 2004 elections.

He said the Kufuor administration has demonstrated its capability of running the country through the implementation of prudent fiscal policies which have stabilised the cedi and reduced inflation.

The regional chairman said the party would, at the appropriate time, honour all party faithfuls whose contributions have led to the development of the NPP in the region.

Mr Dickson Atta pledged to provide a new regional office to enhance the activities of the party in the region.

He called on members of the party to remain united and continue to rally behind the regional leadership.

The Deputy Western Regional Electoral Officer, Mr King Addai Darkwa, commended the delegates and the contestants for comporting themselves during the elections.
