Major Don-Chebe (Rtd) heads IPR, Ghana

Accra, Oct. 12, GNA - The Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana, has elected Major Albert Don-Chebe (Rtd) as its new president. He was elected unopposed at the 18th Annual General Meeting of the IPR in Accra last week, according to a statement issued in Accra on Tuesday by Mr Joseph Dottey, Executive Secretary. Major Don Chebe (Rtd) is a graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon. He did his post-graduate studies at the University of Manchester, UK, where he earned an M.A. degree.

He is also a graduate of the Ghana School of Law. He has occupied several key positions in the Ghana Armed Forces and in the public and private sectors.

The statement quoted Major Don-Chebe (Rtd) as saying he would use his tenure to work hard to revamp PR training and education by working closely with tertiary institutions offering PR courses to infuse more communication technology, PR planning and management and research and results measurement into these course modules. It said Major Don-Chebe also said the IPR would revive plans to internationalize the teaching and practice of PR by offering students the opportunity to write International Chartered PR examinations locally.

He said the new executive would strengthen student charters of IPR and offer special opportunities for persons performing PR roles to professionalize and join the Institute as full members. Other elected Executive Council members were Mr Perry Ofosu, Vice President, Mrs Giftie Jones-Quartey, Honorary Secretary and Ms Patience Mamle Asare, Treasurer.
