Major Mahama’s final journey home begins

Major Maxwell Mahama’s final journey home begins as six military body bearers carry the casket from the State House to the Military Cemetary.

Hundreds of Ghanaians including state officials converged at the forecourts of the State House to pay their last respect to the fallen soldier who got killed by an angry mob at Denkyira-Obuase after he was mistaken for a thief.

The casket containing the remains of Major Mahama was decorated with the national colours of Ghana, with his cap, sword and uniform placed on it.

In front of the casket, stood a large, framed portrait painting of the slain soldier.

Described as a "fallen hero and a true gentleman and selfless leader" in the funeral brouchure, late Major Mahama was born on November 1, 1985 to Captain Dennis Mahama and Veronica Bamford.

Major Mahama was lynched by some residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region who were reported to have mistaken the army officer's identity for an armed robber.
