M AJOR RESHUFFLE UNDER WAY Buoyed John Evans Atta Mills, after the drubbing of his party’s founder’s wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, and basking in an unprecedented glory ever to be witnessed in the nation’s politics; is set to re-overhaul his government.
The re-coronated Presidential candidate of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2012 presidential elections, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, over the week end dealt a humiliating blow to the presidential ambitions of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, when he handed her, an almost 97% thrashing at the party’s special delegates congress, held in Sunyani.
A close source to the office of the President, disclosed to this paper immediately after the highly successful NDC congress that, president Mills is all set to re-invigorate his 31 month old government, with some major changes in some portfolios across board, to ensure that his promised ‘Better Ghana’ agenda is realized by election time 2012.
President John Mills himself, also gave an indication to this effect in his acceptance speech at the NDC special delegates congress in Sunyani: “We must be the first to admit that certain issues raised during the campaign period would not be "swept under the carpet", stressing, "honestly, they would be addressed”. The President assured members of the party. According to our source, some of the affected institutions to witness ‘movements’ would include; the ministries of Transport, Interior and Roads. Others changes would be seen in some of Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad, particularly; Egypt and a very important European country. The security services would also not be left-out, just as chief executives and boards of some public organizations. He disclosed.
In the election itself; president Mills won in all 10 regions with a total of 2771 votes, or 96.9%; the former First Lady received a measly 90 votes or 3.1%. Even the Ashanti Region, where she hails from, offered her 9 votes. President Mills congratulate Nana Konadu for giving him a "good fight" and also helping to unearth challenges facing the party which was taken for granted. He called the results "no victory" for any individual but that with the contest over, the battle for 2012 has begun and called for unity. The President was speaking at the National Delegates’ Congress of the National
Democratic Congress (NDC) in Sunyani on the theme: “Unity in Diversity for a better Ghana”, where he was elected flagbearer to lead the party in Election 2012.
He said perhaps the only losers are those who wished the contest had been bloody, but he was humbled by the massive show.
