Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu is Majority Leader in Parliament
Majority leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, has revealed how he nearly landed in Togo instead of Kotoka International Airport in an airplane due to an increase and poor weather report.
The legislator explained that, they were airlifted on a plane from Accra to Kumasi but because of poor weather report from the meteorological service Department in Ghana, the pilot was not fed with an accurate information about the weather situation in Kumasi.
The plane got to Kumasi before realizing there was a heavy storm for which they could not land and had to return to Accra, he narrated.
The Majority leader added that, the poor weather report leading to uneasy landing of planes has happened to him twice.
He narrated how on one occasion the plane he travelled on was forced to go and land at Togo because when the plane got to Kumasi, it could not land again just as the first one.
According to him, when they reached Accra, the situation was the same with heavy storms so their plane could not land so they were asked to go and land at Togo for safe landing.
He made these comments when he was contributing to a statement made by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa, on the unfortunate cyclone Idai which happened in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe which has claimed lives and property destruction.
Mr. Osei Kyei Menssh Bonsu called on the Ghana Meteorological Service Department to uplift their performance by making sure that, prior and accurate weather information is served Ghanaians and institutions that mostly depend on the weather in discharge of their duties.
Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, also added his voice by appealing to parliament to do their best contributing in cash to support the countries that have been affected by the unfortunate natural disaster and called on the president to also to do his best in lending a helping hand as well.
He underscored the need for government to provide the metro service wi the needed gadgets and technology to enable them deliver.
He was particular about the readiness of the service to see ahead and inform Ghanaians about a similar disaster in the country in order to help authorities plan for it.
After the contributions from members of parliament, the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye led the whole house to observe a minute silence to these affected countries and it’s citizens.
