Majority leader ‘weeps’ over lack of bonding among MPs

Majority leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has lamented the lack of bonding among Members of Parliament.

Colleagues, he said, should necessarily forge closer attachments with each other and take the trouble to know where others are at different times of the day.

According to the majority leader, the call was premised on developments in the aftermath of the robbery attack on MP for Nyiaeso Constituency, Kennedy Kankam.

Armed thugs reportedly laid siege on the member’s residence Sunday dawn during which he and his family were held hostage for over three hours.

Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu indicated that Sunday morning, as at 8:00 am when he received information about the attack, his communication with other colleagues showed none of them has heard of the incident.

He said, “Anyone that I called, I have not heard.”

The leader lamented that as at 2:00 pm when he reached other members for confirmation, they had not heard of the attack.

“Mr. Speaker, I had to get in touch with the second Deputy Whip, Moses Anim, who had to contact the national coordinator of a colleague in Ahafo Ano in the Ashanti Region, who was able to contact the national coordinator of Hon. Kennedy Kankam to ascertain the truth.”

“The Members of Parliament that I called, none of them, as late as 3:00 pm has heard.”

“That certainly cannot be right. It means we are not bonding well, Mr. Speaker,” he said.

According to him, MPs are in Parliament as colleagues and as friends and should, therefore, forge closer bonds to know where others are at all times.
