Begoro (E/R), June 3, GNA - Majority of New Patriotic Members of Parliament have endorsed Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be the party's presidential candidate in the 2012 election.

The MPs have therefore called on the delegates to vote massively for Nana Akufo-Addo, come August 07.

The MP for Atwima Mponua, Mr Isaac Asiamah, said this when he addressed NPP supporters and delegates at Begoro in the Fanteakwa Constituency as part of a campaign tour by Nana Akufo-Addo to the Eastern Region. He said the MPs' decision to back Nana Akufo-Addo was as a result of his commitment, dedication and loyalty to the party since its formation. Mr Asiamah denied rumours within the party that NPP's defeat in the 2008 election was as a result of the wrong candidature of Nana Akufo-Addo. He said in the history of the fourth Republican constitution apart from Nana Akufo-Addo, no presidential candidate of the party was able to obtain 49 percent of popular votes in his first attempt.

Mr Asiamah said Professor Adu Boahen 32 percent in 1992, former President John Agyekum Kufuor had 39 percent in his first attempt in 1996 and in 2000 he had 44 percent in the first round before he won the election with 57 percent in the second round.

He said if the NPP supported somebody who had 39 percent in his first attempt, there was no reason why they should reject another person who had 49 percent in his first attempt.

Mr Asiamah urged the delegates and the supporters not to be deceived by any selfish individual whose loyalty to the party cannot be trusted. Nana Akufo-Addo said he was ready to lead the party to victory come 2012 and therefore urged the delegates to vote for him. He said he would provide logistics and financial support to the campaign in 2012 to enable the party capture power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Nana Akufo-Addo said Ghanaians were fed up with the NDC government because it had failed to fulfil all the promises it made to them. 03 June 10
