Make Ghana a Chinese tourist destination - Jake

Accra, March 16, GNA - The Ministry of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City is negotiating to make Ghana a major destination for Chinese tourists.

Mr Jake Obestsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City made this known on Tuesday when the Chinese Ambassador paid a courtesy call on him.

He said, "we want to put Ghana as one of the Chinese destination in Africa, we want to organise tourism shows in China". The Minister said China had one of the fastest growing tourism industries in the world and called on the Chinese government to help Ghana to develop its potential in the sector.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey noted that many tourists got frustrated when they want to visit Ghana because of the acquisition of visas and said the Ministry would collaborate with the Ministry of the Interior to help in making the acquisition of Ghanaian visa easy for tourists who wanted to come to Ghana.

Mr Zhang Keyuan, Chinese Ambassador, said he would do his best to make Ghana the preferred tourist destination for the people of China. He said, "We will work together with the Minister to make Ghana a major tourist destination for China.

Mr Keyuan pointed out that Ghana had a lot of resources in terms of tourism and said his country would continue to work with the Ministry of Tourism to promote the industry in Ghana. 16 March 05
