The Ga Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has called on politicians who are Christians to take advantage of their positions to make disciples of Christ.

Rev Dr Victor Okoe Abbey noted that it was sad political parties (mainly the NPP and NDC) keep fighting each other even though most of their leaders claim to be Christians.

“Today look at our political scene, we have NDC and NPP and these two parties are polarizing the whole society as if their enemies. If you belong to this part you have to make sure these people will be trodden…,” he stated

He added that “the parties are fighting all the time. Most of the members and the leadership are Christians and yet all these things are happening”.

Using the chairpersons of the NPP and NDC as examples, Rev Dr Abbey stressed that the first focus of politicians who claim to be Christians should be to make each other a disciple of Jesus Christ and not the victory of the party in elections.

He was however quick to add that to make others disciples of Christ, one must first be a disciple himself.

“Before we can go out there and tell others to change their ways, we have to change our ways first… all the things that we say, all the things that we do should be in accordance to the will of God.”

He said “we have not been able to become true disciples of Christ and so we are not able to go out there and make disciples and bring them in. We need to do that and it should reflect in the society”.

Rev Dr Victor Okoe Abbey was speaking to members of the Ga Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana who gathered at the Ramseyer Congregation, Taifa on Sunday 12th May 2019 for service.

The service forms part of the 2019 Ga Presbytery Session which is being hosted by the Taifa District.
