Mali To Open Consulate In Kumasi

The Malian government is taking advantage of the improved relations with Ghana and the increase in the number of its nationals in Ghana, to establish a consulate in Kumasi. The consulate to be established soon, will take care of the large number of Malians resident in the Ashanti Region and the northern parts of the country.

Outgoing Malian President Alpha Oumar Konare told the Malian community in Kumasi that the decision to open the consulate is to acknowledge the unity of Malians resident in the Ashanti region and their sustained efforts at contributing to the development of Mali. He assured them that his government is aware of their problems and is making all efforts to help resolve them.

A Spokesperson for the Malian Community, Charles Diarra, said they have so far been accorded the needed protocols by Ghana without any discrimination whatsoever. He noted that the change in the political leadership of Ghana has not affected the cordial relationship between Malians and Ghanaians. Mr Diarra commended the Konare government for its laudable foreign policies that enabled Malians resident outside their home country to vote in the recent elections and to also contribute their quota to developments back home.
