"Mame Dorkono" calls for peace

Nkawkaw (E/R), April 22, GNA - Mrs Grace Omaboe, alias "Maame Dorkono", one of the three New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary aspirants for the New Abirem seat, has reiterated the need for love, unity, understanding and tolerance to enhance party cohesion. This, she said, was necessary in preparation for what she describes 93as the battle ahead".

Mrs Omaboe appealed to her fellow aspirants and their supporters to conduct decent campaign since they all belonged to the same family. She was speaking at Nkawkaw on Friday when she met and interacted with about 63 women polling station party executives on the need for more women to be given the chance to enter Parliament in next year's General Election.

Mrs Omaboe expressed regretted that there was too much rancour within the party in the constituency and said one of her top priorities if given the chance to be a Member of Parliament was to explore ways to unify the party ahead of the 2012 elections. She said given her popularity within the constituency and even across the country through her HIV and AIDS work and her passion for women issues and the vulnerable in the society she was sure to retain the seat for the party and maximize votes for the NPP.

Mrs Omaboe said she would source for micro-finance facilities for women who are suffering under what she described 93as the bad economic policies of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

An activist of the NPP, Mr Kwasi Korang, who addressed the women, urged them and their male counterparts to endorse the candidature of Mrs Omaboe since according to him 93she has great love for people and very much concern about the vulnerable in the society".

Mr Korang described Mrs Omaboe as a courageous woman who even in the face of persecution under the NDC was not daunted but continued to fight for the NPP.

Such a person he stressed was the one who should be endorsed to contest the seat and eventually win to fight for the needs and rights of the people.
