The election of Presiding Member (PM) by the Mampong Municipal Assembly has ended in a stalemate after two rounds of voting could not produce a winner.
None of the two candidates battling for the position could secure the mandatory two-thirds majority votes.
Solomon Nyantakyi polled 29 votes in the first round, while his other contestant, Stephen Asamoah, garnered 15 votes. There were four rejected ballots.
Round two of voting, saw the former’s total votes’ drop to 26, with that of the latter, shooting up to 22.
The District Electoral Officer was left with no option but to postpone the election when it became clear that the deadlock could not be broken. No new date was set.
