The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Court on Thursday remanded a 22-year-old unemployed man into prison custody for allegedly stealing from a house at Atonsu S-Line in Kumasi.

Cardinal Asare, alias ‘Nchankota’ pleaded not guilty to the charge and will reappear in court, on July 09, this year.

His accomplice, identified by the Police as Randy, is now at large.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Felix Akowuah, prosecuting, told the Court presided over by Mrs Mary Nsenkyire that, the complainant was a resident of Atonsu S-Line in the Asokwa Municipality.

He said on May 20, this year, at about 1430hours, the Asokwa Police patrol Team had information that thieves had broken into a house belonging to the complainant at Atonsu S-Line.

ASP Akowuah said that the patrol team proceeded to the house and arrested the suspect when he was about to escape from the said house.

The Prosecution said the police found in the possession of the suspect several items including a travelling bag which contained shirts, seven waist belts, ten wrist watches and perfumes.

He said other contents of the bag were; two Mediacom tablets, a Sony digital camera, one decoder with its remote control, a 14 inches flat television set, a pump action gun, and a Metro Beretta pistol.

The Court further heard that a witness in the case told the police he saw the suspect and his accomplice, scaling the fence wall of the house whilst the occupants had left for work.

ASP Akowuah said when the complainant returned home, she was informed of what had happened in her house and she proceeded to the Asokwa police station and confirmed that the items belonged to her.

He said the suspect in his cautioned statement admitted the offence and mentioned Randy as his accomplice, adding that he and Randy hatched the plan at Atonsu Old town.

He said the suspect told the Police that after entering the house, they used a pestle to break one of the burglarproof metals fixed into the windows and entered the room.
